Forest Solutions has worked with local landowners on a variety of land management needs since 1999. Our expertise in plantation forest management and GIS is ideally suited to serving other large tracts of land.
Today we manage over 150,000 acres of land on Hawaii Island. Many of the innovations we designed for plantations have been very successful in managing and restoring Hawaii’s native forests.
Our reputation as innovators in native forest management and restoration has encouraged private landowners to restore their own lands. While government agencies have followed more traditional or prohibitively expensive land management techniques, our methods both accurately forecast and reduce the costs of native forest restoration, making it accessible to the private sector.
The results are impressive. In the last four years, for
example, we have assessed invasive weed species populations on 80,000
acres and treated 35,000 of these, established 30 acres of intensive
new dryland forest using exclosures, planted 12,000 native dryland plants,
and started ongoing native forest inventories spanning some 40,000 acres
of land.
