Research Forester
Prepare and manage annual research
budget for 25,0000 acre Eucalyptus plantation. Lead research steering
committee & propose
new lines of research. Design and execute silvicultural, genetic and
pathological, trials on plantation Eucalyptus. Coordinate and direct
field mensuration of established trials, analyze resulting data statistically
and report preparation. Coordinate consultation visits, incorporate
recommendations in research lines and operational recommendations.
Serve as resource for district foresters’ queries in statistics,
genetic improvement, and silviculture.
Consulting Forester
Nursery and natives: Design and implement native
specie propagation trials, compile and analyze data. Develop standard
propagation protocols based on trial outcomes. Serve as consultant
for nursery procedures, sanitation, propagation, media, irrigation and
use of chemical products
Forestry and silviculture: Prepare long-term land management plans,
monitoring systems. Develop protocols for invasive weed control by adapting
local and international experience. Prepare, implement analyze and report
on various experiments in native and exotic stands, particularly thinning
and weed control.

Research Supervisor
Responsible for execution of experimental designs
in all aspects of Eucalyptus plantation silviculture in the tropics,
concentrating on fertilizers, herbicides, and site preparation. Statistical
analysis and preparation of reports interpreting results obtained and
recommending changes to operational procedures currently used. Participation
in design of new experiments, interacting with agrochemical suppliers
and/or consultants, and other members of the research team. Coordinated
and directly supervised 2 technicians and 6 field workers in the establishment
and evaluation of experiments. Presented selected results obtained in
state-wide technical meetings. Prepared research project for producing
charcoal from waste-wood using FAO technology. Supervision of site preparation,
herbicide application, and fertilization of plantations by contractors,
particularly in research areas.
May 1999- Sept. 1999 Peace Corps
Volunteer
Promoted the use of agro forestry systems among rural
communities, particularly in areas with on sloping terrain and/or severe
erosion problems. Used non-formal education to promote conservation of
soil and natural resources. Guided the management of rural tree nurseries,
working with groups of interested farmers.
USDA Forest Service, Tongass Natl. Forest - Craig , Alaska
Forest Technician
Participated in delineation of harvest units for helicopter
and cable logging systems in mountainous terrain. Performed surveys
using laser and/or cloth tapes to determine acreages of harvesting units,
surveyed logging roads and streams, prepared maps. Participated in variable-area
cruising with relaskops.
Determined cable-logging boundaries and location of feasible landings.
